About State Shifting
Since the 1980s, Dr. Panebianco has contributed to the field of Integrative Medicine, and for decades, to the field Mind-Body Medicine including as author of The Science and Practice of Mind-Body Medicine for the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. Dr. Panebianco values a multidimensional approach to patient care while leveraging the impact of emotions, thoughts, and neurophysiology on the experience of health, disease, and performance in beneficial ways.
Our Mission
State Shifting through Mind-Body Medicine, is designed to instill internal State Shifting skills while infusing effective accessible Mind-Body Medicine Skills & quality health and wellness resources. A core capacity of State Shifting through Mind-Body Medicine, is enhancing life quality in conjunction with chosen healthcare teams, while expanding performance capacities in a variety of endeavors (military, government workers, first responders, healthcare, workforces, athletes, & academia) and for other personal, professional, and health-oriented goals.
State Shifting through Mind-Body Medicine values an integrative approach through the application of the best of modern medical science,(research, therapeutics, and diagnostics) with effective and appropriate healing systems, while favorably leveraging the multiple life variables of the human experience especially the mind-body connection.
We have the capacity to live life more fully present, non-reactively, and more consciously, without being unfavorably conditioned by prior experiences or expectations. This is possible through a Mind-Body Medicine Skillset that includes nervous system auto-regulation to induce internal State Shifting.
When we can unstuck ourselves from the impact of prior experiences and conditioned thinking and feeling, and shift to desired internal states and away from less than desirable internal states, we can effectively transcend unfavorable conditioning. State Shifting through Mind-Body Medicine leads to internal physiological shifts, placing us in a better position to make choices with expanded awareness to co-create fulfilling and desired life trajectories with greater ease, vitality, and proficiency given the inevitable challenges of life or performance demands. The Fundamental Problem
As fellow human beings who exhibit uniqueness in every imaginable way, we at times contribute to the struggles & suffering of others and ourselves as a result of prior experiences and neurological wiring that can lead to faulty projections onto moments in reactive and inaccurate ways. As a result, we can get stuck in less than desirable internal states that can result in reactivity and tunnel vision driven by an over-activated sympathetic nervous system further leading to undesirable outcomes and experiences.
When we are neurophysiologically stuck in undesirable states, we often cannot see available resources and resultantly, we can make challenges more formidable than necessary leading to further undesirable consequences.
The Mind-Body Solution
Effective Mind-Body State Shifting skills can lead to intentional auto- regulation of nervous system activity and internal physiology, to enable one to effectively step back in a given moment with enhanced awareness of choice.
From a performance standpoint, State Shifting through Mind-Body Medicine places us in a much better position to respond with awareness to a given challenge as opposed to react out of inaccurate approximations or projections onto reality. In turn, we are more skillful to adapt to and transcend challenges and demands.

Additionally, mind-body practices through preferential parasympathetic activation, can lead to a multitude of favorable physiological effects including a decrease in systemic inflammation, less stress on internal organs, and enhanced activation of valuable frontal lobe brain circuits.
Mind-Body skills also activate the vagus nerve, a nerve that is part of the parasympathetic nervous system, which has beneficial effects on various bodily systems including and beyond the cardiovascular system. Vagal nerve stimulation also leads to favorable effects on heart rate variability that is also beneficial to health.
Our Experiential Goal
State Shifting through Mind-Body Medicine leads to internal physiological changes that enhance the capacity to live life with expanded awareness by being more immune to less than favorable conditioned thinking and reactive behavior, with a skillset ranging in choices to auto-regulate the nervous system to self-inoculate against the mind’s nature to project onto moments in distorted ways.
State Shifting through Mind-Body Medicine shifts the interface between subconscious and conscious awareness so we experience a more comprehensive field of awareness to make better choices in response to a given life moment. By being more aware internally and externally, we are less likely to engage in reactive behavior that is myopically driven by the survival and fear regions of our brain that when activated, can add further counterproductive negativity to already challenging circumstances.
With State Shifting through Mind-Body Medicine, we are able to survey the totality of life’s landscape in more compete and accurate ways. With enhanced frontal lobe brain circuitry activation, we are able to inoculate ourselves from conditioned and destructive thinking and behavior that has been seeded by previous life chapters or modeled by our original clan.
Though State Shifting, we can more readily live with the freedom to take in moments more fully without the distortional and projectional influences of the mind that emanate from destructive or sabotaging thinking that normally or abnormally colors life’s moments with hues of previously experienced pain or expectation.
